RICHLAND -- The Salvation Army will hold its annual Kettle Kick-Off breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Friday at the Salvation Army, 1219 Thayer Drive in Richland.
The breakfast helps to raise money for the poor, homeless and others in need.
This year's campaign theme, "The Time Is Now," draws attention to The Salvation Army's urgent need for the public's support in the wake of our country's continuing economic crisis and the growing numbers of families coming to The Salvation Army for help.

There will be two seating times, at 11:30 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 24.
Everyone in the community is invited.

The federal government's cheese giveaway was expected to be over in the Tri-Cities today as volunteers at Pasco's Salvation Army center and the Tri-City Food Bank finished doling out 2,862 five-pound blocks.

RICHLAND About four dozen community members were thankful to the Salvation Army and more than 80 volunteers who spent their Thanksgiving Day giving back to others.
The Salvation Army and its volunteers prepared dinner -- 21 turkeys and all the trimmings -- to serve 125-150 people in Richland.
Numbers were down this year -- only 45 people arrived at the Thayer Drive building for the Thanksgiving Day meal -- but those who did were grateful the Salvation Army was able to provide a place for them to go.

Low-income Benton and Franklin county residents can apply for assistance during Christmas from The Salvation Army.
Sign-ups are between 9 a.m. and noon today at 1219 Thayer Drive in Richland or from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. from Monday through Nov. 4 at 310 N. Fourth Ave.
To qualify, you must present a birth certificate for children under 12 for gifts, as well as a picture ID for adults, proof of current address and proof of income and expenses.
