Maciboba to coach Kennewick High volleyball
Kennewick graduate Julie Maciboba will be back in the gym representing the Lions this fall, just as a coach not a player.
The 2005 graduate was hired to take over the volleyball program earlier this summer. Previous coach Scott Carswell resigned after taking the Lions to their first state tournament in school history last season.
"I'm excited," Maciboba said. "I'm anxious to get started."

Columbia Basin College's volleyball team didn't make it to the NWAACC tournament this season.
But there are still plenty of Mid-Columbian connections when play begins at 9 a.m. today in Gresham, Ore.
First, there's Walla Walla, set to meet Olympic at 4:30 p.m. in the first round.

Here's a look at what some of our area's athletes have been up to lately:
IDAHO: Outside hitter Allison Walker (Othello) was named first-team all-Western Athletic Conference in volleyball recently. Walker, a sophomore, led the league with 4.31 kills per game in WAC matches, and added 2.69 digs and 0.49 blocks per game while hitting .212. She had 13 double-doubles on the season, and was a three-time WAC Player of the Week in 2011. Her 4.65 points per game ranked second in the conference. Walker was also a first-team all-WAC selection in 2010. Idaho advanced to the WAC tournament semifinals in Las Vegas before falling to New Mexico State. Walker was named to the all-tournament team.
MONTANA: Senior middle blocker Brittany Quick (Hanford) was an honorable mention selection to the All-Big Sky Conference volleyball team. Quick led Montana in both hitting percentage (.259) and blocks (0.96/s) her final season with the Grizzlies. Her averages in those categories ranked seventh and ninth in the Big Sky.
