PASCO -- The Port of Pasco's Riverfront Business Park now has a name: Osprey Pointe.
Port commissioners selected the new name Thursday to better represent the 125-acre site along the Columbia River in Pasco.
The osprey, one of the largest birds of prey in North America, are common near large bodies of water at lower elevations throughout Washington, officials said.
"We actually have an osprey nesting platform on the site of the new business park that annually hosts a family. It is delightful to watch the birds come every year and hatch their young. It makes the name Osprey Pointe even more meaningful to those of us at the port, and we know it will for our future tenants," said commission President Jim Klindworth.
The port has approved a master plan to promote mixed-use development at the business park with amenities including a riverfront trail.

We are excited at the prospect of Ron Reimann serving as Port of Pasco commissioner.
Ron will work to enhance and improve the Pasco Processing Center and Foster Wells Business Park compound north of Pasco. He envisions increasing processors to the area by promoting improved water solutions to encourage the development that provides salaried, full-time employment and adds to our tax base.
He is interested in exploring the development of a corn receiving and drying facility at the marine terminal to further utilize barge transportation on our wonderful river system.

I would like to thank those who helped with the Osprey Pointe Wildlife Habitat Improvement Project. The Saturday after Thanksgiving, several Cub Scouts and their parents joined members of the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society and Friends of Mid-Columbia River Wildlife Refuges in restoring native habitat shrubs along the shoreline at Osprey Pointe.
None of this would have been possible if it weren't for the Port of Pasco commissioners listening to the concerns of citizens and approving recommendations put forth by those citizens last spring. Port of Pasco staff and commissioners agreed and opted to not only change their original Shoreline Plan but to add more money to the budget to accommodate some of the citizen recommended changes.
Thank you to the Port of Pasco for listening, and thank you to all the volunteers who helped plant shrubs or donated money to purchase the plants (from a locally owned business!)
