The Columbia Chorale's first concert of the 2009-10 season will be led by a new director and include some new music.
Steve Halliday is the new conductor for the 38-member Columbia Chorale. He's also the conductor for the Tri-City-based Columbia River Chordsmen barbershop harmony organization.
The concert -- titled The Gift of Gratitude -- starts at 3 p.m. Nov. 15 in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, 2001 W. Kennewick Ave. Admission is $5 at the door.
"Our concert is a collection of well known and well-liked songs," said member Kara Morris. "We chose favorite songs that we have sung in previous concerts that our audiences have enjoyed, such as Dream and For the Beauty of the Earth. We'll close the concert with The Old Irish Blessing."
The entire collection of music to be sung also includes patriotic, spiritual, nostalgic and novelty music, such as America the Beautiful, Elijah Rock, Those Were The Days and Polly Wolly Doodle.
A special performance by the Chordsmen is included in Sunday's event.
The Columbia Chorale is one of the oldest singing groups in the Tri-Cities, having organized more than 45 years ago and is made up of singers of all ages.

The Mid-Columbia Mastersingers' annual holiday concert promises to bring together a heap of mixed cultures with its "Carols & Lullabies of the Southwest" event Dec. 16 and 18.
The concert features festive music sung in Spanish and English.
"The centerpiece of this concert is a piece by Conrad Susa that is a collection of 10 traditional Mexican Christmas songs arranged in a narrative to represent a Southwestern piata party for the baby Jesus," said Lisa Hill, a vocalist with the Mastersingers ensemble. "This unique instrumentation for this piece includes harp, marimba and classical guitar."

The Mid-Columbia Mastersingers perform their season opener concert starting at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at Central United Protestant Church, 1124 Stevens Drive in Richland.
Music includes the works of Mozart as well as a new musical composition by the Mastersingers composer in residence Reginald Unterseher.
Guest musicians include tenor J. Adam Shelton and organist Kraig Scott, as well as the Chief Joseph Middle School Treble Choir.

Humor will be served up music style at the Jan. 29 concert performed by the Mid-Columbia Symphony in Kennewick.
If you see humor and classical music as a strange brew, then you've never seen Leonard Bernstein's Candide , which is included in the symphony's concert.
Also on the program will be Charles Ives' The Unanswered Question, The Country Band March and Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5 .
