Kennewick police seek owners of stolen property

By Paula Horton, Herald staff writer

Several truckloads of stolen property were found at a Finley home, and Kennewick police detectives are now trying to identify owners of the property.

The stolen goods, including a commercial miter saw, table saw, airless sprayer and tile-cutting equipment, were discovered Thursday at 22703 S. Oak St., said Detective Sgt. Mark Weber.

Johnny D. Allstead, 46, of Kennewick, lives in the home that was searched by Kennewick police, Benton County sheriff's detectives and members of Kennewick police's Criminal Apprehension Team, Weber said.

Allstead was arrested at 3 a.m. Friday after an alert neighbor spotted him entering a house under construction in the 1700 block of West 51st Street in Kennewick, police said.

Allstead was found in his truck at the location and arrested on suspicion of trespassing.

Later in the morning, officers talked to workers at the home and learned that some construction materials had been stolen a week earlier, but the theft hadn't been reported, Weber said.

Investigators determined that a tool in the back of Allstead's truck was among the items that were stolen, he said.

Detective Rick Runge questioned Allstead, who allegedly admitted being connected to the prior burglary, Weber said.

He described some specific items that were taken and also said he was responsible for other thefts, including one at the Kennewick Wal-Mart store weeks earlier, Weber said.

Some of the items stolen from Wal-Mart, including lawn mowers and a computer, were among the property recovered at Allstead's home, Weber said.

Allstead was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of second-degree burglary and first-degree criminal trespassing. More charges are pending.

Anyone suspecting some of the stolen property belongs to them should call Kennewick police with a description of the item and a police report from when it was stolen, police said.
