Free child identification kits will be available today at a Richland grocery store.
Richland police and the Richland Albertsons have teamed up to put on the child fingerprint/identification event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the store at 1320 Lee Blvd.
Parents can pick up a free fingerprinting kit to take home, and kids will be given papers to color and return to the store for display and a chance to win a free healthy eater's tote.
Officer Erica Tungesvik, the police department crime prevention officer, also will be there with games and prizes for children.
"Helping kids and families stay safe has always been a priority to the Richland Police Department," Tungesvik said.

Bail reduced for woman accused in kidnapping
A Richland woman accused of being involved in kidnapping a Pasco woman over a stolen cellphone had her bail reduced to $200,000.
Carrie L. Childs, 48, of Richland, has been in the Franklin County jail on $500,000 bail since Oct. 19. She faces a Dec. 14 trial in Franklin County Superior Court on first-degree kidnapping.
Defense attorney Kevin Holt asked Judge Craig Matheson on Tuesday to reduce her bail to $50,000, so she would have a chance to get out and go back to work.

RICHLAND A Richland man has been arrested on suspicion of forgery and identification theft after he allegedly used a counterfeit check to buy a gift card from a Les Schwab store.
Justin Wilkinson, 33, of Richland, and Stephanie Vinson, 40, of Richland, reportedly used the phony check at the tire store on Stevens Drive. The gift card they purchased was used to buy tires.
Richland’s Street Crimes Unit contacted Wilkinson and Vinson at Wilkinson's Richland apartment. They reportedly discovered Wilkinson and Vinson engaged in producing counterfeit checks, according to a Richland Police Department press release.

Soroptimists walk to fight child trafficking
The Soroptimist Three Rivers Club will sponsor the third annual Walk to Stop Child Trafficking Now on Sunday.
State Sen. Jerome Delvin (R-Richland) will kick off the walk, which begins at noon in Columbia Point Park in Richland.
Stop Child Trafficking Now is a nonprofit dedicated to fighting the demand for child sex trafficking. Last year, more 40 communities around the world participated and raised $750,000.

RICHLAND -- Sometimes you need to get away for the day and just get outside. You probably don't want to go too far or drive too far, and you don't want to haul a lot with you.
Craig Romano's new book, Day Hiking: Columbia River Gorge , is a handy guide that can fulfill that need.
The book, which will be discussed by the author at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Richland Public Library, features 100 hikes, most less than 5 miles long, that can be found within the National Scenic Area of the river gorge.
