SPOKANE -- Heather Worley recorded 28 digs and 20 kills to lift Southridge to a 18-25, 25-16, 25-13, 23-25, 16-14 first-round victory over University at the 4A regional tournament.
The Suns jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the fifth set before falling behind 13-11. But Southridge managed one final rally to collect the win.
"This time of year, I'm very proud of how we responded to adversity," said Suns coach John Lengphounpraseut. "It shows the character of how far the team has come."
Southridge will face Mead at 11 a.m. today.

SPOKANE -- Demi Warner and Sydney Schulthies led a strong service attack for Kamiakin, but the Braves couldn't muster enough offense to take down the defending state champs, losing 25-21, 25-17, 25-22 in the Eastern Washington 4A Regional.
Kamiakin faces a loser-out match with Wenatchee at 12:30 p.m. today at Mount Spokane and needs to win one more match after that to advance to state.

KENNEWICK -- The Kennewick volleyball team hopes history repeats itself this week.
The Lions swept rival Southridge 25-19, 25-22, 25-19 on Tuesday night in a Class 3A Eastern Washington regional tournament elimination match at the Lions Den.
A year ago, Kennewick knocked off Southridge in the same situation and rode that victory to its first state tournament appearance.

Connell improved to 6-0 in league with a 25-11, 25-8, 25-22 road victory over Kiona-Benton on Tuesday night.
"It was a well-balanced match, and we came out offensively and defensively strong in the first two sets," Connell coach Kate Johnson said.

RICHLAND -- Richland setter Lauren Joseph kept all her frontline players happy, spreading her 38 assists around as the Bombers topped visiting Walla Walla 25-16, 23-25, 25-18, 25-18 in a CBBN 4A contest Thursday.
Richland, solidly in second place behind unbeaten Chiawana, had four players with eight or more kills, led by Alisha Bettinson (14 kills) and Charlene Manning (11).
"We were setting our outsides too much, so it's something we're working on," Richland coach Bob Raidl said. "We got to get better on that if we want to go anywhere."
