Former pro football player Clint Didier will be guest speaker at a Benton County Republican Party dinner at
6 p.m. Saturday.
Didier announced at a Tea Party rally Sept. 12 that he planned to form an exploratory committee to pursue a run for the Senate.
He's a former tight end for the Washington Redskins and Green Bay Packers, who played in three Super Bowls in the 1980s and earned two championship rings.
He grew up in Eltopia and played for Connell High School, Columbia Basin College and Portland State University before going to the National Football League.
He now coaches for Connell High School and runs an alfalfa hay farm and an earth-moving business.
The dinner costs $30 and is at The Country Gentleman in Kennewick.

I did not have radioactive seed implantation. However, for early stage tumors, surgically removing tumor tissue and temporarily placing a radioactive implant where the cancer was can kill remaining cells and make it easier for the immune system to begin the healing process. In a 10-year United States study on breast cancer, survival was identical for patients who had this procedure as for patients who had mastectomies. Removing larger tumors also reduces the burden on the immune system.

Benton and Franklin counties may be part of an alternative approach to managing agricultural lands despite some uncertainty about the new program.
Commissioners in both counties have unanimously approved opting-in to the state's new Voluntary Stewardship Program.
Counties had until Jan. 22 to decide whether to join the recently created state program that would be an alternative to the critical area development regulations mandated by the state Growth Management Act for protecting areas used for agriculture.
