Election briefs: Connell mayor

By the Herald staff

Connell Mayor Gary Walton apparently has been re-elected.

His opponent, Bob Widows, had asked voters to vote for Walton because he felt Walton was doing a good job. He said he entered the race to provide competition for the four-year nonpartisan position, but then was unable to withdraw after he had second thoughts.

Walton received 182 votes, or about 63 percent of those counted Tuesday evening. Widows received 107 votes, or 37 percent.

In Franklin County, about 800 ballots have yet to be counted. The county sent out 23,903 ballots and had received 6,823 Tuesday. Results will be next updated on Friday and be certified by Nov. 24.
