Brenda Chilton of West Richland plans today to file with the Benton County Republican Party to replace retiring county Auditor Bobbie Gagner.
Chilton made her announcement Tuesday, the same day Patrick McBurney of the Benton County Republican Party released the guidelines Republicans must follow to replace Gagner, who will resign Dec. 31.
The local Republican Party will form a committee to vet potential replacements.
The Benton GOP will accept applications through Nov. 20, then present three candidates to the county commissioners, who will select the replacement in early December.
Applicants must be Benton County residents, registered voters and in good standing with the Republican Party based on the party's membership policy.
Applications can be sent to Benton County Republican Party, attention: Nomination and Credentials Committee, 7620 W. 21st Ave., Kennewick, Wash., 99336.
Chilton, who has worked in the auditor's office for more than decade and has been chief deputy auditor since 2004, plans to run for the position in 2010.
