Kennewick planners urge changes to ward boundaries
KENNEWICK -- The past decade saw Kennewick grow significantly to the west. But now, the city council ward boundaries are heading east.
The 2010 census determined that Ward 1, the westernmost ward in the city, has a few thousand more people in it than wards 2 and 3.
The city planning commission last week reviewed the new boundaries that add territory to wards 2 and 3, and it is recommending the city council formally adopt them at a future council meeting.

Kennewick City Council: Loren Nichols takes second
Kennewick City Council: Loren Nichols takes second
A political newcomer who campaigned on making illegal immigration a capital crime and having Kennewick declared an English language-only community will advance to the general election.
Loren Nichols will face Mayor Steve Young on Nov. 8 in the race for a seat on the Kennewick City Council based on unofficial results in Tuesday's primary.
All three incumbents on the Kennewick council received the most votes in their bids for re-election to new four-year terms.

CITY COUNCIL, WARD 2: Veteran, newcomer vie in Kennewick
Incumbent Paul Parish has attended a few thousand Kennewick City Council meetings, while Diane Crawford had not been to any before deciding to run for a seat on it.
Kennewick voters will choose between them in the Nov. 8 election when electing their Ward 2 representative.
Council members serve four years and receive $992 a month, plus health benefits.
Recommendations recap for general election
Recommendations recap for general election
We still find it strange to wrap up our election recommendations in mid-October, but the state's transition to a vote-by-mail system has changed the way everyone -- candidates, voters and the media -- approach election season.
With ballots mailed last week and arriving in most mailboxes by Friday, a lot of Washington voters will make today their election day.
With that in mind, we're publishing a recap of the Herald editorial board's recommendations today. The full editorials are online at tricityherald.com.
