Kennewick School Board: Brooks, Messinger, Mabry
Because of their active involvement in their children's education, three candidates -- Brian Brooks, Ben Messinger and Ron Mabry -- are highly qualified to serve on the Kennewick School Board.
As parents of students, they frequently participate in school events, take part in parent-teacher conferences, help in their children's classrooms and support the extracurricular activities in which their children and others are involved.
Brooks, Messinger, and Mabry have guided and encouraged their children to excel academically, as well as to participate in leadership, sports and the arts.
Basketball families
Basketball families
As our local school district superintendents and athletic directors determine the fate of the Big Nine conference, I ask that they keep in mind those parents who have children playing both boys and girls basketball.
We appreciate being able to attend games at one location. My son and daughter play at Southridge High School. I am fortunate that the 3A league embraced the idea of keeping families together. I notice that the local 4A schools send their boys and girls varsity teams in opposite directions.
If the new southern league format is adopted, I would hope the superintendents would continue with the format that has both boys and girls playing at the same location.
Biologically speaking
Biologically speaking
Biology determines that every human child has two parents -- one male, one female -- and they are his parents for life. Marriage developed to bind the child to both parents, and each parent to the other, so the child would have access to both parents. Marriage should protect the rights of a child to know and be known by his biological parents; it should not be re-defined around adults.
True, not every marriage produces children. But every child has two parents: One man, one woman, for life.
