The Reach's baby mammoth has a name

The baby mammoth on display at the Columbia Center mall in Kennewick has been given the name Baby Ems.

Ashley Nelson of Richland submitted the winning name in the "Name the Baby" contest. Ten runners-up will receive guest passes to Fairchild Cinema in Pasco and Regal Cinema in Kennewick.

The Hanford Reach Interpretive Center has been displaying a replica of the complete skeleton of a prehistoric baby woolly mammoth at the mall since July.

Nearly 2,600 entries were received, with more than 1,750 names suggested.

Runners-up are: Wool I Am submitted by Anthony Galioto; Scruffels submitted by Heather Stewart and Adrian Espiritu; Bubbles submitted by Madisyn Brown; Peo Peo Mox Mox submitted by Andy; L'il Bee Cee submitted by Sandy Smith; Maddy submitted by Erin Story; Maxie submitted by Nadiah Enriquez and Mariah Mercado; Skippy submitted by Thia Stewart.
