What happened to Clive Owen?
The once-upon-a-time-gonna-be James Bonds star is fading. Owen is an exceptional actor stuck in flicks such as the spy clunkers The International and Duplicity, and now The Boys are Back.

On paper this is a great, three-hanky movie. A widower deals with the shocking loss of his wife while balancing his job with raising a very young boy and reconnecting with an estranged son.
In between, he's negotiating his way through a relationship with the now ex-in-laws and a beautiful neighbor.
Turned to reality, Scott Hicks (Shine) film drags. Owen isnt the least bit sympathetic, you dont like either kid and The Boys are Back ends up as an overly long, tiresome whinefest.

The most important word in the title? Tale.
The tale part of Dolphin Tale is a stretch. A big one. Here’s the truthful part of the story. Winter is an actual dolphin whose tail was irreparably damaged by a crab pot and had to be removed. The tail was replaced by a prosthetic designed by a team and not a crusty but wise old African-American engineer.

Many of the best-received commercials during Sunday's Super Bowl referenced movies - they just weren't for movies heading to the local cineplex any time soon.
'The Big Year' no big deal
'The Big Year' no big deal
The Big Year is based on Mark Obmascik’s book. The title is apparently a bird-watching term.
One does a big year when they are willing to devote almost all of their time to the sport if we can call it that of birdwatching. A big year is an attempt to see as many different species as possible.
While not exactly true, the movie does highlight the lengths that those who love birds will go to spot this species or that. The flick stars Jack Black as a young man and perennial loser whose dream is to set the record for the most birds seen in a year during bird watching. The world record is 732 species. It is held by Owen Wilson’s Kenny Bostick.

Fart jokes at age 45?
Adam Sandler is still doing them and usually within five minutes of the beginning of a movie. Hard to believe isn’t it? And he doesn’t stick with just one. Sandler’s form of “humor” can be found twice, thrice, sometimes even four times in a film.
Prepubescent boys find a toot a hoot. By the time you’re 15, fart jokes are pretty much passe. Maybe it’s Sandler’s signature. Modern comedians tend not to use them. Billy Crystal is one of the few. He’s simply marvelous. A lot of old-time comedians did. Jimmy Durante said goodnight to Mrs. Calabash. Bill Cosby’s signature is, “Hey, hey, hey.” George Burns told his lovely bride to, “Say goodnight, Gracie.”

Thomas Schell and Oskar, his 9-year old son are very close. Best pals even.
Dad and the autistic boy or that’s the best definition the boy himself could come up with play with oxymorons, look for clues for a mysterious sixth borough in New York and do all kinds of intellectual stimulus.
Then Thomas played by Tom Hanks dies in one of the twin towers on 9/11.
