Blue is Cold performs after yearlong hiatus

After taking more than a year hiatus from performing, the rock band Blue is Cold returns to the stage Oct. 24 at Dax's Tavern in Richland.

Showtime is 8 p.m. There is no cover charge.

"There's no rhyme or reason for (the year hiatus)," band member John Reed said. "We have a couple new songs we will try Saturday and we're excited to get back to it."

One-woman show set at WSU Tri-Cities

Mixed, a one-woman show that portrays multicultural Americans, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at Washington State University Tri-Cities in Richland.

The performance will be in the West Building Atrium, 2710 University Drive.

Maya Lilly wrote the play, which illustrates her personal experience of growing up multiracial. Mixed brings to life eight male and female characters with ethnic backgrounds.

The show was a finalist in the 2008 Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival, a multicultural festival of women solo artists. The WSU Tri-Cities presentation will feature actor Christina Moses in the lead role.

Def Leppard drops Spokane show

Def Leppard's scheduled tour stop in Spokane on Oct. 25 has been canceled, promoters have announced. Ticket refunds are available at the point of purchase.

Walla Walla Symphony fundraiser set Nov. 7

The Walla Walla Symphony celebrates its 103rd birthday at a gala fundraising event starting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Marcus Whitman Hotel.

The evening includes wine, hors d'oeuvres, dinner, dancing and live and silent auctions and music by the Gary Winston Band. Proceeds benefit the Walla Walla Symphony. Cost is $75 per person and reservations are required.

Trail Band concert set Oct. 24 in Hermiston

The Trail Band concert starts at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 in the Performing Arts Center at Hermiston High School, 600 St. First St., Hermiston. Cost is $19 for adults and $9 for students. Tickets at the door.

Atomic Comedy fest continues in Richland

Atomic Comedy Festival continues Oct. 23-24 at Jokers Comedy Club, 624 Wellsian Way, Richland.

More than a dozen comics from around the country, including Tri-City native Toby Roberts, will compete for top funnyman award.

Shows start at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for the early show and $10 for the later show.

Dinner theater shows set for next month

Tickets are on sale for the dinner theater presentation of Clothes Encounters.

Cost is $50 for the 8 p.m. dinner show Nov. 6-7, 13-15, 20-21, and $25 for the dessert matinee at 2 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Red Lion in Kennewick.

Guild seeks submissions for annual juried show

The Larson Gallery Guild is seeking entries to its annual juried art show, which is open to artists in Benton, Chelan, Douglas, Franklin, Grant, Kittitas, Klickitat, Okanogan, Walla Walla and Yakima counties.

Play reading planned Oct. 31 in Pendleton

A dramatic reading of the play You Have Always Been Welcome Here is planned at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Pendleton Center for the Arts, 214 N. Main St., Pendleton.

The play follows the lives of four transgender people and their relationships with family, gender and spirituality. It is sponsored by the PFLAG (Parents and Family of Lesbians and Gays) of Pendleton. Admission is free.

Common Ground band to play contra dance

Common Ground will provide music for the Three Rivers Contra Dance starting at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at Shuffler's Shanty, 717 N. Irving St., Kennewick.

Admission is $8 at the door. Teens and senior citizens are $6.

'Waltz With Bashir' next film on tap at Battelle

The film Waltz With Bashir starts at 8 p.m. Oct. 23 in the Battelle Auditorium, on Battelle Boulevard off George Washington Way in Richland. Admission is $3 at the door.

Scriptapalooza contest seeking submissions

Submissions are being accepted for the Scriptapalooza screenwriting competition.

Early-bird deadline is Jan. 5. Application fee is $40. Regular deadline is March 5 with the fee of $50 and final deadline is April 15 with a fee of $55. More information is at www.scriptaalooza.com.
