This year's Gala D'Vine fundraising event exceeded its sponsors' goals.
Big time.
The Kennewick General Hospital Foundation netted just over $140,000, bettering the organizers' goal by 40 percent.
The event, honoring foundation member Mike McWhorter, was at the Three Rivers Convention Center. It found contributors were more than
generous:
w Hospital supporters contributed $60,100 at the live
auction.
w They contributed $22,848 in the silent auction and raffles.
w The Raise the Paddle event generated $34,450 to be used to equip the innovative new Joint Replacement Center, scheduled to open at KGH in January.
It will be a one of a kind program in Eastern Washington. Sponsorships and ticket sales accounted for the rest of the money donated. Red Lion Hotel Corporation was the event's major sponsor at $5,000.
Twenty percent of the money raised at Gala D'Vine will be added to the Foundation's endowment account, which supports emerging needs for programs, services and equipment at KGH.
The remaining contributions from the event will fund a new Good Samaritan Program, created to assist patients and their families facing special needs. The program will provide vouchers and gift certificates for lodging, transportation, clothing, food and other basic amenities to KGH patients and their families in crisis.
Money from Gala also will update the Jim Mokler Living Wall and support on-going programs and services at KGH that enhance patient care.

KGH Foundation officials reported net proceeds of more than $160,000 from its Gala D'Vine fundraiser earlier this month.
The event at the Three Rivers Convention Center earned $65,000 from a live auction, $15,000 from a silent auction, $30,000 from a Raise the Paddle auction and $80,000 from table, individual and event sponsorships.
The money goes toward helping expand Kennewick General Hospital's Hematology and Oncology cancer treatment program, the purchase of a new fetal ultrasound system for the Obstetrics and Gynecology clinic, and other patient programs and services.

Ever since the first Gala D'Vine in 2005, this annual fundraiser has been both winner and healer in the Tri-Cities.
That first year, there was no provision for an outstanding citizen or citizens to be the focus of the event.
But its initial success made it clear the gala might become the premier fundraising event for Kennewick General Hospital.

Event raises $223,000 for cancer center
The Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation received $223,000 from its Autumn Affair, which was 48 percent above its goal.
The 11th annual event was Nov. 12 at the Pasco Red Lion with 320 community supporters of the Tri-Cities Cancer Center and its foundation.
That amount included a $50,000 pledge that Dave Schultz with HAPO Community Credit Union announced during the evening.

HAPO Community Credit Union announced Friday it will become the permanent sponsor of the annual golf tournament fundraiser for the Tri-Cities Cancer Center.
The event is being renamed the HAPO Golf Classic Supporting the Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation.
"We believe in the cancer center," said HAPO CEO Dave Schulz. "It shares the same values as the staff of HAPO."
