RICHLAND -- The Richland volleyball team came up short in its quest to get back to the Class 4A state tournament, falling in five sets to Central Valley at home Tuesday.
The Bears knocked off the Bombers 18-25, 25-15, 25-15, 17-25, 16-14 to win the opening round match of the Class 4A Eastern Washington Regional.
"It's always tough to lose your match of the season at home," Richland coach Bob Raidl said. "We just really struggled closing out the fifth set. We were ahead 13-9 and just couldn't close it out.

KENNEWICK -- Kamiakin came out strong against host Kennewick on Thursday night and won 25-13 in the first set, but the Lions rallied for the remainder of the CBBN 3A matchup to tally wins of 25-23, 25-20, 25-16 and beat the Braves.
Meghan McIntyre led the Lions' attack with 11 kills, Lizzy Ridley pulled six aces out of her hat and the magic number was 20 for Caylee Engel (assists) and Brittany Evans (digs).
"We played really well and never gave up," Lions coach Julie Maciboba said. "I'm proud of their performance tonight."

WENATCHEE -- Nikki Eldridge recorded 26 blocks 26 kills and five aces as Hanford went 1-3 at the Wenatchee Invite volleyball tournament Saturday.
The Falcons beat Kentlake 25-10, 26-24, 25-16 to begin pool play, and then lost to Cascade 25-17, 25-21.
In the championship bracket, Hanford lost 25-17, 25-15 to Chelan and 25-15 to Eastmont in a one-set finale.

KENNEWICK -- Meghan McIntyre and Sophie Clinton combined for 25 kills, and Kelly Dyer served up five aces to lift Kennewick to a five-set CBBN 3A home win over Southridge.
Emma Spurlock led the Suns with 17 kills.
"We're still making a lot of unforced errors. Our passing game is just not that good," said Southridge coach John Lengphonprouset, who watched the Suns give up a two-games-to-one lead only to drop the last two sets.
