Kamiakin looking to break out

By Rene Ferran, Herald staff writer

KENNEWICK -- Scott Biglin keeps thinking that this is the week his Kamiakin offense finally hits on all cylinders.

And each week, the Braves show flashes of brilliance, followed by frustration.

They have the top passing offense in the CBBN, with senior Corey Hutchison throwing for 886 yards -- but just five touchdowns.

"The kids watch the film, and they see how close we are to breaking things open," said the first-year coach, who implemented the spread offense this year he used successfully at Kiona-Benton. "They see the potential we have."

Biglin and the Braves know if ever there's a week to translate that potential into a 48-minute performance, it's tonight at Zaepfel Stadium against Eisenhower in a matchup of CBBN Cascade unbeatens.

The Braves are coming off a 21-14 overtime victory over Eastmont in which they had to rally in the fourth quarter.

"That's a game that could have been mentally draining," Biglin said.

"They'll hit you in the mouth, and if you're not ready, it'll be a long night.

"But this is what we want to be playing for. We don't want to be in the eighth-ninth place game. We want to be playing for first, and that's what this is."

NOTES: Kennewick hosts Moses Lake tonight in a game that will bear upon district seeding. The Lions are 2-1 in CBBN Columbia play, while ML is 1-1. ... The Battle of Richland takes place tonight at Fran Rish Stadium as the Bombers "travel" to play Hanford, which has lost three straight since a season-opening win over Sunnyside.
