RICHLAND -- Momentum can be a fickle beast in volleyball.
Take Tuesday night's CBBN match between Pasco and Richland at Art Dawald Gym.
In the first set, the Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead and looked as if they could upset the ninth-ranked Bombers.
But after Richland rallied to take the opening set, ol' Mo crashed down upon the Bulldogs, and the Bombers cruised to a 25-23, 25-9, 25-15 victory.
Richland remained tied atop the CBBN standings with Southridge, each with 7-1 records. Pasco fell to 3-4 in conference play.
"We just weren't connecting that first (set)," said Richland setter Krysta Olberding, whose ace closed out the set. "We just need to get a little better at coming out stronger at the start."
Pasco led 15-11 in the first set after a Kendra Voorhees kill, and after giving up the lead fought back to 23-all on back-to-back aces by libero McKenzie Delawder.
That was the end of the highlights for the Bulldogs. They had 10 unforced errors in the second set and eight in the third, falling behind early in each.
The killer blow was freshman Alisha Bettinson's eight-point service run, punctuated by two aces, that gave Richland an 18-4 lead in the second set.
"Momentum can go either way," said Pasco senior Karis Gamache, who had a team-high seven kills. "At the end of the first set, they pretty much took control, and we just didn't execute."
Olberding had 31 assists, many going to junior middle blocker Chelsey Bettinson, who finished with a match-high 15 kills.
Alex Estes added nine kills and Michelle Coughanour six for the Bombers.
