RICHLAND -- Corey Prugh of Spokane's Manito Golf & Country Club fired a 6-under-par 66 to take a two-stroke lead after the first round of the Northwest Open Invitational golf tournament at Meadow Springs Country Club in Richland on Monday.
Amateur Bill Winter of Portland's Columbia-Edgewater is in second with a 68, while three professionals -- Mike Schoner of Lakeview, Tyler Wong of Sudden Valley, and Scott Leritz of Royal Oaks -- are all tied for third with 69s.
Among the Mid-Columbians faring well after the opening round is Steve Stull of Meadow Springs, tied for sixth at 70.
Meadow Springs' Jason Aichele, who lost in a playoff last year, is tied for 15th at 72, along with ex-CBC golfer Birk Nelson (now at Diamond Woods) and Canyon Lakes amateur Brandon Black.
Meadow Springs' Jesse Van Schoiack is tied for 27th with a 73.
The 54-hole tournament resumes at 7:30 a.m. today, and the final round is set for Wednesday.
