Over the course of six seasons, Don Nachbaur molded the Tri-City Americans into one of the top teams in the WHL. Under his guidance, the Americans won back-to-back U.S. Division banners and a WHL regular season title in 2007-08.
Don left the Americans in July to take a job with the Binghamton Senators of the AHL. I thought it was only fitting, since he won't be here tonight to
see the Americans unveil their second U.S. Division banner, to ask Don to
offer a word of congratulations to his former team.
In a Herald exclusive, via telephone from Binghamton, N.Y., here is Don's
message.

Question booed
Question booed
On Oct. 9, you published a letter from Tim Taylor that was factually incorrect when it claimed the audience at a recent GOP presidential debate booed an American soldier.
I listened to the soldier's statement and question many times to insure my accuracy. The soldier's identifying himself as gay was met with respectful silence, as is proper. It was his question on "don't ask don't tell," which was moot at that time, that prompted perhaps two people to boo. It was the question not the soldier that was booed!

Not cute or funny
Not cute or funny
I know that the pictures in the Pet Zone section of the Sunday paper are supposed to be cute and funny, but as a Vietnam veteran, I don't see anything cute or funny about on picture in the Nov. 20 edition.
First of all, the American flag is lying on the floor, then the dog is sitting on the flag. There is nothing cute or funny about that picture. If the dog's owners are trying to make a political statement with the flag and their dog's name, George W., it is lost on me. I find the picture insulting and ridiculous! The dog's owners should learn flag etiquette, and shame on the Tri-City Herald for printing it.

Aaron Boogaard enters guilty plea
Former Tri-City Americans Aaron Boogaard pleaded guilty Thursday to interfering with the scene of his brother Derek's death.
There is probation, along with a long list of don'ts for Aaron, but the sentence allows him to stay in the Unites States, where he currently is with the Minnesota Wild's farm team, the Houston Aeros.
Here is the report from the Minneapolis StarTribune.

Supports health care reform
Wow. To listen to the Republican presidential candidates, you'd think the new Affordable Health Care Act was a major threat to the American way of life. Here are some of its significant provisions; you be the judge.
-- Provides health insurance coverage to Americans who have been denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions or denied benefits when needed most.
-- Guarantees the right to appeal insurance company decisions.

Some blacks insist: 'I'm not African-American'
The labels used to describe Americans of African descent mark the movement of a people from the slave house to the White House. Today, many are resisting this progression by holding on to a name from the past: "black."
