CONNELL -- The Connell girls basketball team's hopes of the SCAC East regular season title took a major hit Friday, as the Eagles lost 53-50 to Mabton at home.
Connell now trails Kiona-Benton by one in the loss column. Kiona-Benton has two games left in the regular season, while Connell is done until the district tournament next week.
"They took it at us in the second half and got us into foul trouble," Connell coach Kameron Jenks said. "We had to recover defensively. It was the free throws that did us in."

BENTON CITY -- After a rough start Tuesday, the Connell girls basketball team dialed up the pressure.
Using a full-court, man-to-man defense, the Eagles rallied from a big early deficit to roll to a 49-37 SCAC East victory at Kiona-Benton in a matchup of league unbeatens.
"We knew we have a lot of girls that can play," Connell coach Kameron Jenks said, "and they only use seven players. So, we tried to wear them out.

Bailey Schroeder had a triple-double for Kiona-Benton in a 66-23 SCAC East victory over Royal in Benton City.
Schroeder had 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the Bears, and teammate Taylor Brown had a double-double with 14 in both the points and rebounds columns. Cierra Torp led the team with 18 points.
