RICHLAND -- Richland High School will honor former football coach J.D. Covington prior to Friday's Columbia Basin Big Nine Cascade opener against Eastmont at Fran Rish Stadium.
Covington led the Bombers from 1971-85, going 110-43 and winning the 1981 state title among his seven playoff appearances.
The school is asking that all players and coaches during Covington's career arrive prior to the 7 p.m. festivities and gather on the sideline.

A trio of Mid-Columbia wrestlers won titles Saturday at the Pacific Northwest Classic at University High in Spokane, including two from the Tri-Cities.
Chiawana's Chris Monte-longo claimed the 106-pound crown wiht a 12-2 win over Aaron Klauder of Deer Park, concluding a strong weekend at the weight for the first time this season. Montelongo, a junior, placed sixth at 4A state last year at 103 and figures to be on a short list of favorites for the 106 title this season.
Richland senior Josh Andrew took the title at 120 with an 8-4 win over University's Keaton Vallance in the final. Andrew scored a 6-1 win in the semifinals over Chiawana's P.J. Murillo, who went on to place third.

PASCO -- Lonnie Hurley has had a number of big moments in his Pasco wrestling career.
There was the win in the loser-out consolation round of regionals his sophomore year, a 12-5 decision over Wenatchee senior Justin Valdez, who had beaten Hurley twice the previous week at districts.
Hurley, a fifth seed, went on to place fourth and earn a trip to state as an alternate. He did not touch the Tacoma Dome mats that season, but it was an important introduction to the two days of orchestrated chaos that is Mat Classic.
