Winery celebrates harvest with stomp
ZILLAH -- Celebrate the fall harvest Saturday at Silver Lake Winery in Zillah, 1500 Vintage Road. There will be live music, grape stomping contests, food and wine from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Local farmers featured at winery event
QUINCY -- The third annual Farmer Consumer Awareness Day Chef Extravaganza will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at White Heron Cellars, Quincy.
The event features three chefs and a variety of ingredients grown within 20 miles of the winery. The Sagebrush Skillet Lickers will bring their original Americana rock 'n' roll to entertain.
The Extravaganza is held in an outdoor amphitheater. The cost is $30 at the door for all you can eat. Bring chairs.
The winery is off Highway 28 between Quincy and Wenatchee.
Grape stomp promises fun, prizes in Prosser
PROSSER -- Squeeze the grapes the old-fashioned way with your feet at the Grape Stomp and Barbecue on Sept. 12 at Chateau Champoux in Prosser.
There will be prizes for each three-person team.
The cost is $45, which includes contest participation, a T-shirt, barbecue lunch and wine tasting; or $35 for the lunch and wine tasting only.
The winery is at 524 Alderdale Road.
Chefs compete at Wild About Game weekend
WELCHES, Ore. -- The ninth annual Wild About Game weekend at the Resort at the Mountain in Welches will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 27.
Northwest game chefs perform a cooking competition and cooking demonstrations. A marketplace will offer food and wine tasting.
Paul Bosch, executive chef at the Resort at the Mountain, will prepare a game dinner buffet at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets are $25 and include the cook-off, cooking demonstrations, wine seminar and marketplace. The buffet dinner costs $55 per person. A $75 combination ticket includes everything.

SEATTLE The Washington State Wine Commission and Seattle's Convention and Visitors Bureau today announced the formation of a new partnership to produce Taste Washington, the nation’s largest single-region wine and food event held annually in Seattle.
The Commission will license the event to SCVB, and the Commission will become a presenting sponsor. Beginning immediately, SCVB will assume primary responsibility for producing the event, including sponsorship and vendor arrangements, while the Commission will manage winery participation and other wine-related activities.
“Over 14 years, Taste Washington has grown to become the premier showcase for the Washington State wine industry in the Pacific Northwest,” Kent Waliser, Chairman of the Washington State Wine Commission and general manager for Sagemoor Vineyards said in a news release. “This new partnership will enable Taste Washington to continue to grow into a destination wine and food event on a national level."

Head for the Yakima Valley on Sept. 24-25, as wineries celebrate the harvest during the 25th annual Catch the Crush event.
All will be offering discounts and give participants a chance to sample newly released and reserve wines. Several also will organize special wine maker's dinners.
This time of year is a hectic one for the wineries as they're picking and crushing this year's crop, said Barbara Glover of Wine Yakima Valley, the group representing the Yakima Valley wineries.

If you're spending Thanksgiving in the Mid-Columbia, this is a great time to seek out a new winery, try a new vintage or simply get out and explore.
You can take advantage of the Yakima Valley and Rattlesnake Hills Wine Trail wineries' Thanksgiving in Wine Country events.
In the Yakima Valley, several wineries will hold a holiday open house with special tastings of wines, music, art displays and discounts on purchases Friday and Saturday. Grape events on tap in Kennewick, Grandview
Grape stomps abound Sept. 10 in the Tri-Cities and Grandview.
The annual Grapefest is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Kennewick. Festivities include an old-fashioned contest of stomping grapes in wooden wine barrels, which takes place throughout the day. Admission is free.
Grandview's Grape Stomp starts at 1 p.m. Sept. 10 on the campus at Yakima Valley Community College, 500 W. Main St.
