A number of Mid-Columbians enjoy watching the Versus network for its college football coverage which includes a handful of games involving the Pacific-10 (WSU) and Mountain West (BYU) conferences.
Others tune into Versus to follow Tri-City American grads in the National Hockey League.
And at least two friends of mine won't leave the house during Versus' coverage of the Tour de France.
Well, according to Diane Pucin's report today for the Los Angeles Times, score one for the cable companies in their battle with one of the satellite TV giants.
DirecTV has informed its subscribers that it plans to drop Versus on Aug. 31.
A spokesman for DirecTV told Pucin that Versus owned by cable behemoth Comcast, which seems to rule the Puget Sound wants too much money.
Thankfully, I've received no reports that Charter Communications in the Tri-Cities plans to drop Versus.
I wonder who will "turtle" in this fight. DirecTV or Versus?

KENNEWICK -- The 2011 Lamb Weston Columbia Cup is scheduled to be replayed on VERSUS at 1 p.m. on Oct. 30.
The event, won by U-96 Spirit of Quatar driver Dave Villwock in late July, will be televised as a result of a partnership between ANG/H1 Unlimited and the VERSUS network.
VERSUS can be seen in the Tri-Cities on Charter Communications channel 36, on Direct-TV channel 603 or Dish Network channel 151.
