Reward increased for information on stolen explosives

By the Herald staff

WALLA WALLA -- The reward for information leading to the return of explosives stolen in late July from the Port of Walla Walla airport industrial park explosive magazine has been increased to $25,000, authorities said.

The explosives were stolen between July 23-27 and belonged to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Washington State Patrol, U.S. Forest Service and two private citizens.

Anyone with information relating to the explosive theft is asked to call the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, toll-free, at 888-283-2662 (888-ATF-BOMB). All calls are confidential.

Each of the five units occupied in the cinderblock structure where the explosives were stored were forcibly entered, authorities said. The break-in was discovered during a routine inspection by state patrol officials.

The stolen items include 14 bags of rocket black powder, detonation cord, blasting cap boosters, 96 one-pound blocks of TNT, 17 sticks of dynamite and 180 pounds of black powder.
