Heavy metal music isn't just deafening, the musicians who play it have been known to be a bit eccentric too.
Slipknot's a perfect example. This nine-member rock band delves into the macabre much like Korn and Marilyn Manson.
Slipknot comes to the Toyota Center in Kennewick on Aug. 23. Also appearing is Dahlia Murder. Admission is $35.
Not only is the music of the California-based Slipknot ear-piercing, the musicians also are notorious for their wild, attention-grabbing behavior, which means parents might want to talk before allowing youngsters to attend the show.
Slipknot's grinding alternative metal is complemented by the outrageous theatrics the band acts out on stage.
They wear masks and matching jumpsuits that some critics have called "ridiculous." And, the band also is known for affectionately calling its fans maggots.
Slipknot's first self-titled album was released in 1999. Some of their most notable singles include Wait and Bleed and Spit it Out.
The Tri-Cities may not have an abundance of top-notch rock bands perform here, but if you're a fan of loud and ultimately wild music, then this is the one for you.
As the band warns on its website, "Get ready for mayhem!"

Great White leads the pack of rockers scheduled to appear at this year's Rocktoberfest, which is Oct. 1 at the TRAC in Pasco.
And even though these vintage musicians from the 1970s aren't as young as they used to be, they've still got the brawn of the Energizer bunny.
"We're like sharks who never stop moving," joked Great White's keyboardist Michael Lardie in a telephone interview with the Herald. "So, yeah, I guess we could be called the Energizer bunny of bands."

I was kind of disappointed to see there was no article for the Cavalcade of Bands in the Sunday paper, except for a picture of a shiny horn.
In order to see any pictures, one would have had to go to tricity herald.com to see photos. Not everyone has access to a computer.
There was no article saying that local schools placed in the finals. Sports are covered and pictures shown in the paper, why not the music competitions?

The annual Rocktoberfest will serve up a feast of rock Oct. 1 at TRAC in Pasco.
Headlining the event is Great White along with Hell's Belles, The Missionary Position and the Tri-Cities' own Eclectic Approach.
The popular 80's-era band Great White is best known for its song Once Bitten, Twice Shy . The band reached their peak popularity with the album ...Twice Shy in 1989, according to Wikipedia.

Tickets are on sale for the annual Puttin' on the Ritz New Years Eve party happening Dec. 31 at the Red Lion Hotel in Kennewick.
The 20-piece band Swing Unlimited will provide the music for the event, which starts at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $60 if purchased before Dec. 15 or $70 after that date. Price includes buffet dinner, party favors and champagne at midnight. The Red Lion also offers discounted hotel rooms.
