Seems to me no team can go wrong with a Pickard in net, and now both Pickard brothers -- former Tri-City American Chet, and now his little brother Calvin -- have gold medals.
Calvin Pickard, who plays for the Seattle Thunderbirds, won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2009 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Canada beat Russia 9-2 on Saturday in the Gold Medal game at Alcaplast Arena in Breclav, Czech Republic.
The Ivan Hlinka Tournament is a annual summer U-18 championship featuring national teams from Russia, Finland, Sweden, United States, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Canada.
Pickard made 34 saves on 36 shots against Sweden on Tuesday to help Team Canada to a 3-2 win. He made 14 saves on 17 shots in a 6-3 victory over Switzerland on Wednesday. Pickard finished the tournament with a 2-0 record, .906 save percentage and a 2.50 goals against average.

When you’ve beaten the team that goes home with the gold, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth when you have to settle for less. But Tri-City Americans goalie Eric Comrie prefers to think of his trip to the U-17 World Hockey Championships in a positive manner.
“It was a lot of fun,” said Comrie, who backed Team Pacific to a fifth-place finish. “I met a lot of guys and it was fun wearing a Canadian jersey for the first time.”
Comrie helped Team Pacific to a 5-2 victory over Team West in the opening game. Next, Team Pacific, with Tristan Jarry in goal, beat the Czech Republic 4-0.

Ams' trio to play in Subway Series
For the first time in team history, the Tri-City Americans had three players selected to Team WHL for the Subway Super Series against Team Russia.
Forwards Justin Feser and Patrick Holland, and defenseman Zach Yuen were chosen Thursday to play in Game 2 of the series Nov. 17 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
"It's exciting," Feser said of being selected. "You work hard to get to play in events like this, and it's exciting to get to go with two of your teammates."

One of the hottest teams in the Western Hockey League will face one of the best goaltenders in the league tonight when the Tri-City Americans hit the road to take on Calvin Pickard and the Seattle Thunderbirds.
The Americans (15-5-0-0) have had their way with the Thunderbirds lately, winning their last 10 meetings, including the last four in Kent.
"We haven't seen Seattle all year, not even in the preseason," Tri-City coach Jim Hiller said. "It will be new for everyone. Twenty games into the season and a new opponent.
