Bandslam is a predictable but non-typical teen angst flick.
-- Times, trailer, theaters.
Super nerd Wil Burton manages a high school band entering a huge annual rock and pop music competition called Bandslam. Pop singers Alyson Michalka and Vanessa Hudgens do their own vocals and star as two of the kids involved.
No surprises here but terrific acting, a decent plot and a solid soundtrack will appeal to music fans from six to 60.

Vit plant receives honor from Energy Department
Hanford's vitrification plant construction site has received the Voluntary Protection Program Superior Star award from the Department of Energy.
The Bechtel National project is the only Hanford project to receive the award this year.
Projects that already have earned Voluntary Protection Program, or VPP, status for safety excellence are considered by DOE each year for the Star of Excellence or the more elite Superior Star. To earn the Superior Star, programs must report injury and illness rates well below national averages, demonstrate strong involvement in the VPP Participants' Association and in VPP mentoring and outreach.
Battelle Film Club to spotlight Liz Taylor
Battelle Film Club to spotlight Liz Taylor
Battelle Film Club is offering a Liz Taylor double feature: A Place in the Sun and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf .
An interesting choice. The contrast in the acting styles between A Place in the Sun and Virginia Woolf is stunning. Taylor is more of a supporting character in the first and won an Oscar for what some consider her most powerful work in Virginia Woolf .
I recently caught A Place in the Sun and the plot focus is Montgomery Clift's confused, social-climbing character. Using a breathy, little girl-like delivery akin to Gone with the Wind 's Scarlett O’Hara, Taylor’s low-key work doesn’t give you a hint of the powerful, emotional actress she eventually became.
