Jr. Bandits win regional opener

By the Herald staff

KEARNS, Utah -- The Kennewick Bandits earned an 8-7 victory over host team Bear River Friday morning in the opening game of the Pacific Northwest AA American Legion regional tournament at Gates Field in Kearns, Utah.

The Bandits will play Powell, Wyo., tonight in a semifinal matchup.

"The thing is, we knew these kids were older but it wasn't intimidating to us," said Kennewick coach Dave Price.

Kennewick scored three runs in the bottom of the third to pull itself out of a 3-0 hole. A.J. Henderson and Austin Bartelson had two RBIs apiece to lead the Bandits attack.

"Our bats started to come alive again and our defense tightened up," Price said.
