Legion roundup: Kennewick, Twin City win regional openers

YAKIMA -- Trux French went 4-for-4, doubled, homered and had four RBIs as the Kennewick Bandits 10-runned the Vancouver Athletics 20-10 in AAA American Legion super regional baseball game Saturday at Parker Field.

The Bandits play the Spokane Northstars at noon today for a berth to the state finals, scheduled to start July 25 in Tacoma.

Titans win regional opener

BELLEVUE -- Cody Shepherd had three RBIs, and Brett Jacobs and Shawn O'Brien added two RBIs each as the Twin City Titans beat Longview Red Lion 12-6 in super regional action at Newport High School.

The Titans will play at 11 a.m. today against Lakeside Recovery.

AA Legion district

KENNEWICK -- Blake Raekes and Nolan Sportelli each had three hits to lead the No. 2 seed Kennewick Dusters over the No. 7 Yakima Blues 14-2 at the AA American League district tournament at LaPierre Field in Kennewick.

Dan Scheibe pitched a complete-game three-hitter, striking out six and walking no one, as No. 6 seed Hanford beat No. 3 Walla Walla 2-0.

Walla Walla eliminated Yakima 9-1, as Jake Thomason had a home run and a triple for the Bruins.

In the other portion of the tournament at Southridge, No. 8 seed West Valley upset the No. 1 Kennewick Jr. Bandits 7-6 with four runs in the seventh inning.

The Bandits rebounded by eliminating the Richland Knights 6-0.

The tournament continues today at LaPierre and Southridge.
