Legion roundup: Bandits take down NW power Taylor

By the Herald staff

PORTLAND -- The Kennewick Bandits aren't going to bring home any hardware from the Curt Daniels Memorial tournament in Portland, but they will return with some satisfaction in beating one of the best select teams in the Northwest with a 7-5 win over Taylor Baseball in nine innings.

Andrew Mendenhall led off the ninth with a solo home run, and Tyler Roberts singled in Thomas Henderson for the final margin.

Roberts, Britt Hammer, Austin Pentecost and Landon Scott combined to limit Taylor's powerful lineup to just five hits, and the Bandits played error-free ball for the first time in the tournament following three losses.

"I believe these players really did need a game like that," said manager Gary Key. "After the last two days, you could tell their confidence was shaken a little bit."
