You know the ones. Whereby you would really rather just a big hole in the floor open up and swallow you triggered by something your child says.
I had one of those recently.
We were in the elevator and a nice young woman asks my son how old he is.
Four, almost five, he announces.
Oh really! she exclaims. What do you want for your birthday?
A shotgun, my son announces.
My face? Beet red.
Can I just declare here that he was referring to a Nerf gun he sees at Target every time we go? Placed strategically on the end of the toy aisle so even if I declare that we dont have time to look at toys, it still is able to beckon him.
Oh, and he wont be getting it.
My friends with boys have told me that even outlawing guns in the house only forces them to be creative. Yep, the other day my son ate his bread so that when he was done, he had a bread gun. (Rolling my eyes.)
I will take the creative nature for now.

James Dean Schultz, 27, was armed with a gun when he jumped into the driver's seat of a car during a high-risk traffic stop, pointed the gun at officers and fired twice before they returned fire, said Benton County Prosecutor Andy Miller.
Though witnesses with Schultz say they never heard shots fired from inside the car, tests from two shell casings and a bullet fragment found in the car corroborate the officers' statements, Miller said.

2011 Best of Thankful Thursday: Thanks America
The article in the Tri-City Herald (June 25) about Staff Sgt. Millar, a chaplain's assistant is our son. I want to thank you for printing the article.
I also want to express my thanks for when our son boarded the plane at Dallas. The airline was putting military in first class as space permitted. They were one seat short and our son was seated in the coach section. A lady in the first class section heard about him and traded seats with him so he could have more room for the flight home. Thank you to that caring lady.
And thanks to America for treating our military the caring way you do. What a difference from the tragic and uncaring way our soldiers were treated during the Vietnam War.

Mom may need to stand up for her son, or change her parenting
Q: I have been dating a man for four months now and he has three daughters. I have two sons. Everything was fine at first but now he has a lot of resentment toward my son. When I ask him why, he tells me my son gets on his nerves. He said my son lacks discipline. Mind you, my son is 10. My son has never met his biological father and I have been the only one raising him. My son is not clingy or needy. Why does he feel this way towards my son?
