KENNEWICK -- Prosser midfielder Alberto Quinones was voted 2A player of the year in all-state voting by statewide media and coordinated by the Herald's Rene Ferran.
Pasco's boys team, which reached the 4A state title game, had four players make the all-state first team -- goalie Emmanuel Martinez, forward Marco Acevedo, midfielder Andrew Clark and defender Brady Espinoza.

Seven Mid-Columbia teams reached the 2010 girls state soccer tournament -- Chiawana (4A), Southridge and Hanford (3A), Othello and Prosser (2A), Kiona-Benton (1A) and Warden (2B).
Many of the same players have taken their place on the pitch in 2011. That could tell you one of two things: 1) The players who went to state want to return, and 2) the players who didn't will be even more eager to go.
Either way, area soccer fans are in for an exciting season.

The Washington State Soccer Coaches Association named its all-state girls soccer teams from the fall season, and several Mid-Columbia players earned recognition.
Three seniors from the CBBN 3A -- Southridge forward Heather Johnson, Hanford midfielder Cari Exarhos and Kamiakin defender Macy Brannan -- all were named first-team all-state.
At the 4A level, Richland sophomore midfielder Katherine Virden earned a second-team nod. Three players from the CBBN 3A were named to the second team: sophomore forward Ellie Heiden and junior goalkeeper Sydnee Grant from Kamiakin, and Southridge junior defender Emma Sanders.

Columbia Basin College's volleyball team didn't make it to the NWAACC tournament this season.
But there are still plenty of Mid-Columbian connections when play begins at 9 a.m. today in Gresham, Ore.
First, there's Walla Walla, set to meet Olympic at 4:30 p.m. in the first round.

Today the Eagles will officially grab three of the top impact football players out of the Columbia Basin Big Nine conference.
Miquiyah Zamora of Chiawana and Joe Hunt of Kamiakin will sign on the dotted line during today's National Signing Day. They'll join several other Mid-Columbia athletes who will continue their athletic career at the next level.
