The stirring music of patriotism will fill the air at Flat Top Park on July 3 when the Mid-Columbia Symphony, under the direction of Nick Wallin, performs its annual Independence Day concert.
The music starts at 7 p.m. at the West Richland park off Bombing Range Road. Admission is free.
Visitors will hear the classic sounds of America's song, The Star Spangled Banner, as well as music from Bernstein's West Side Story, Copland's Hoe Down from Rodeo, Ellington's Caravan and Sousa's Washington Post. Other music includes Lord of the Rings, The Entertainer, Stars and Stripes Forever and Victory at Sea.
The event will also be the last opportunity to purchase season tickets to the symphony's 65th season of concerts.
The 2009-10 season schedule includes:
-- Oct. 3: Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B Minor
-- Jan. 24: Brahms Symphony No. 2
-- March 20: Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, and also feature the winners of the annual Young Artists Competition.
-- May 15: Verdi's Requiem with guest vocalists the Mid-Columbia Mastersingers, under the direction of Justin Raffa.
Season tickets to the symphony are from $82 to $90 for adults, from $65 to $72 for students and seniors.
All regular season concerts are held in the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick, starting at 8 p.m.

The Poulenc Trio musicians are known worldwide as masters of classical and contemporary literature that transcends into their music.
The group, based in Baltimore, Md., has performed in Italy, Russia, New York and Washington D.C., and this weekend they bring their elegant sound to the Community Concert organizations in the Lower Valley and Tri-Cities.
The trio is the first of four concerts in the Lower Valley Community Concert season and starts at 3 p.m. Nov. 20 in the auditorium at Sunnyside High School.

The Mid-Columbia Mastersingers' annual holiday concert promises to bring together a heap of mixed cultures with its "Carols & Lullabies of the Southwest" event Dec. 16 and 18.
The concert features festive music sung in Spanish and English.
"The centerpiece of this concert is a piece by Conrad Susa that is a collection of 10 traditional Mexican Christmas songs arranged in a narrative to represent a Southwestern piata party for the baby Jesus," said Lisa Hill, a vocalist with the Mastersingers ensemble. "This unique instrumentation for this piece includes harp, marimba and classical guitar."

Anita Chen, a dual virtuoso from New York City, performs a concert with violin and piano starting at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 3 in the Sunnyside High School auditorium.
Admission is by season ticket to the Lower Valley Community Concert series. Individual tickets to the concert are $30.
Chen, born in 1991, began her music studies at the Julliard School of Music in New York City at age 7 and performed her first piano and violin concert at age 8 at Rutgers University's Nicholas Music Center in New Jersey. By age 11, she launched her professional music career with a concert at Carnegie Hall.
