A Burbank man was charged Wednesday with taking a bomb to a Pasco home, placing the device at the feet of several occupants and threatening to kill them.
Henry Dewayne Mitchell is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Franklin County Superior Court on one count of felony harassment. He is being held in the Franklin County jail on $50,000 bail.
The May 21 incident at 920 S. Lindsey Ave. drew the Richland Police Bomb Squad, which confirmed for Pasco police that Mitchell's device was filled with "a chemical compound intended to produce an explosion," according to court documents.
Mitchell was arrested that day.
It is not clear if or how Mitchell knew the residents. The home is listed as belonging to Tabitha and Ronald Butler.
Prosecutors allege that Mitchell went to the home about 1:30 p.m. and, after setting down the bomb, said if anyone touched it they would blow up. At least seven people were in the house at the time, court documents said.
Mitchell also allegedly waved around a 10-inch long Bowie knife.
"He was extremely angry and was yelling at the occupants," court documents said. "Mitchell threatened to kill the occupants and several of them reported that his conduct placed them in reasonable fear that the threat was going to be immediately carried out."
Mitchell's felony harassment charge applies to threats to kill made to Sharron Shelton.
Bomb squad members said the device consisted of suspected fertilizers placed inside a fuel oil canister with a container of an unknown liquid, documents said. Rifle bullets, nails and tacks were reportedly attached to the exterior of the canister.
