YAKIMA -- Defending state doubles champions Demi Warner and Ali Welch of Kamiakin will have to win two consolation matches today to earn a trip to state after splitting their first two matches at the 4A regional tournament at Kissel Park.
Warner and Welch easily won their first match over Richland's Laurel Thompson and Sydney Dautel 6-0, 6-2, but then ran into Greater Spokane League champions Britta and Kati Jean Stime of Mead, who handed the Kamiakin duo a 6-3, 6-4 loss.
In boys singles, Troy Zuroske of Richland cruised to a pair of 6-1, 6-0 victories over Troy Paterson of Wenatchee and Zach Williams of Lewis & Clark.
Zuroske, who has earned a state berth, will play Ethan Vaugh of Mead today for the regional title.
Richland's John Talbot and Moses Lake's Connor Lange are still in the hunt for a state berth, but must work their way through the consolation bracket.
In doubles, Richland's Chris Shallman and Taylor Dickey will play Wenatchee's Clint Vidano and Hudson Barnhart in the championship match. Both teams have qualified for state.

SUNNYSIDE -- Hanford's Sam Merry defeated Shadle Park's Shelly Emch 6-0, 6-0 to reach the semifinals of the 3A regional tournament, where she will play Mount Spokane's Valerie Nauditt today.
Merry, a spohomore, was the only Hanford player in action in the first round, with the rest of the Falcons earning a bye to the semis.

TUALATIN -- Hermiston senior Richole Berger, who owns three state doubles title, will play for her first singles crown today after beating Abby Farrell of Willsonville 6-2, 6-0, and No. 1 seed Dandan Yu of Corvallis 6-3, 6-3 at Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.
Berger, who also has the Bulldogs in line for a third straight team title, will play No. 3 seed Katie Edwards of Century in the championship match.
