Tennis roundup: Hermiston's Berger wins state opener

BEAVERTON -- Hermiston senior Richole Berger, the No. 4 seed, rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Kalen Pinkston of Klamath Union in the first round of the Oregon 5A girls singles tournament.

All three Hermiston entries advanced to today's quarterfinals.

Boys, West Hills Racquet Club

Doubles--Pigtail: Wyatt Harris-Ian McMichael (Hermiston) d. Myles Sorokovsky-Cameron Tonning (Wilsonville), 7-6 (4), 6-4. First round: Harris-McMichael d. Nathaniel Meskel-Jason Berney (Cleveland), 6-1, 6-3.

Girls, Tualatin Hills Tennis Center

Singles--First round: Richole Berger (Herm) d. Kalen Pinkston (Klamath Union), 6-1, 6-1; Mary Hawman (Herm) d. Natalie Dojcakova (St. Helen's), walkover.
