If you're staying in the Tri-Cities on May 29-30 and the weather keeps heating up, head to the water to take in the annual Columbia River Paddle Fest.
The festival features demonstrations on kayaking, classes and lectures and films on the history of kayaking.
There also will be Hobie Cat boat demonstrations on both days. Events will be in Howard Amon Park in Richland.
Here's the schedule:
May 29: From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be two-hour classes taught by some of the Northwest's premier kayak instructors, said Pat Welle, who runs Columbia Kayak Adventures in Richland.
Instructors will teach strokes, maneuvers, edging, balance and how to handle a kayak. Cost is $20 for adults and $15 for kids. Kayaks and gear are provided.
At 7:30 p.m. there will be a lecture on the history of kayaking. This event is free and for all ages.
May 30: The two-hour classes continue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and there will be on-shore as well as on-the-water events happening throughout the day with the Hobie Cat demonstrations.
For more information, or to register for one of the kayaking classes, call 947-5901. For additional information, call 946-3787.
