HERMISTON -- Angelica Rodriguez qualified for the Oregon 5A state meet in the 100, 200 and 400 meters, and Makenzie Cody won the triple jump to help the Hermiston girls finish just a half-point behind Summit for the Intermountain district title at Kennison Field.
"Our girls were phenomenal," said Hermiston coach Dave Rohrman. "We went way beyond our expectations and put the fear of God into the team that figures to win the state title."
The Bulldogs also finished second in the boys team standings to Summit and qualified six boys and 11 girls entries for state next weekend in Eugene.

BENTON CITY -- Whitney Leavitt won the girls 100 in 12.18 seconds, the third fastest time in the state this year, ran a leg on Kiona-Benton's school-record 4x200 relay and qualified for next week's district meet in Goldendale in four events.
