PASCO -- Learn what to look for when buying garden tools, how to care for roses and pick up some tips on landscape design at a series of free classes at Job's Nursery north of Pasco.
Feeding and Watering Roses -- Helen Newman of the Washington State University Extension Master Gardeners and the Tri-City Rose Society will discuss how to feed, prune and care for roses. The class is at 2 p.m. May 23.
The Right Tools -- Master Gardener Kay Fick will discuss how to shop for, use and care for garden tools to make working in the garden more productive and enjoyable. The class is at 3 p.m. June 6.
Interactive Landscape Design -- Learn some of the basics of landscape design with Kathy Job. She'll show combinations of plants that work together for full sun locations and display them in a flower bed layout. The class is at 3 p.m. June 13.
Pruning Basics -- Duane and Arthur Job will demonstrate how to prune trees to keep them healthy and attractive. They'll also discuss proper tools. The class is at 3 p.m. June 20.

KENNEWICK -- A couple of weeks ago, I ran into someone who had been in our local Master Gardener program 30 years ago -- long before the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden in Kennewick was started.
Her recent visit to the demonstration garden was her first. She was astounded to see what the dedication and time of many Master Gardener volunteers had accomplished during the past 11 years.

Learn about the fascinating world of cheese at three classes at Cheese Louise, a cheese and wine shop on The Parkway in Richland.
Each class runs two hours and includes a chance to nibble on some unusual cheeses.
The classes are taught by the owner of Cheese Louise, master cheese monger Bill Krieger of Walla Walla.
