YAKIMA -- Explore the world of miniature trees.
The Yakima Valley Bonsai Society will hold a free Bonsai Exhibit from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Yakima Area Arboretum.
Bonsai refers to the training and artistic vision applied to a tree, ultimately giving the illusion of an aged miniature tree in nature. The exhibit will feature artistically designed alpine firs, larches, yews and maple trees. The exhibit will include trees in training, live demonstrations, stone exhibits and trees for sale.

CBBN likely to remain intact
CBBN likely to remain intact
YAKIMA -- A meeting between the 10 school districts that make up the Columbia Basin Big Nine athletic conference resulted in the league likely staying intact Tuesday.
The group met in Yakima to discuss different options for how to format the Class 4A and 3A league.
"The general consensus is that we could create a schedule that would meet the needs of all 15 schools in the CBBN and that we wanted to attempt to do that," said Rick Cole, Sunnyside School District superintendent. "In light of that, we said we would like to keep the CBBN together and create a working group to work rather rapidly to create a schedule."

Fall is a great time to visit demonstration garden
KENNEWICK -- A couple of weeks ago, I ran into someone who had been in our local Master Gardener program 30 years ago -- long before the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden in Kennewick was started.
Her recent visit to the demonstration garden was her first. She was astounded to see what the dedication and time of many Master Gardener volunteers had accomplished during the past 11 years.
