My daughters second birthday was in March.
That would be the March that was 6 weeks ago.
We are going on seven weeks since her birthday and talking to her you would think it was yesterday.
Part of this is my fault. We were moving during her birthday so the actual day of her birthday was a quick ice cream cake from Dairy Queen and presents in an unfamiliar house.
About a month later, when I finally felt as though the house was presentable to friends, we held a small party for her with only our closest friends (and mostly 4 1/2 year olds).
Then, to top it off, gifts have slowly continued to trickle in from well-meaning family who realized they missed her actual birthday.
My daughter is now convinced that her birthday is every day. And if it isnt, then it should be.
She requests that her daycare teacher sing her Happy Birthday at lunchtime. She requests the same thing of me at breakfast
I have quit indulging this and lately we instead sing Happy birthday to our 10-year-old dog who has a May birthday.
Whenever a box comes in the mail, she announces that it is for my birthday! And most evenings, she asks to have a birthday party at my house aka a repeat of the small party with the close friends.
And this evening, when I announced we would have friends over for a playdate this weekend, her reply was, for my birthday, yay!
Sigh.
And yes, I have told her, No, it is not your birthday for a long, long time again.
But even I know that is a fib
her third birthday will be here before I know it.

Head over heels about February party time
Head over heels about February party time
So, you thought your Super Bowl team was going to be a shoo-in.
Maybe it was and maybe it wasn’t but win or lose, it was really about the party. At our house, it’s not just one night of celebration. The entire month of February is party time.
There are bowls of guacamole and chips on game night, decadent chocolate on Valentine’s Day and creme-filled birthday cakes for family and friends. By the time we finally turn the calendar, we’ve consumed enough calories to sustain us on a deserted island forever or until the 2012 political debates end.

Family donates toys to Kadlec in memory of child who died from cancer
A Richland family's donation of new toys to the pediatric wing at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland aims to give some joy to the children who might have to stay there.
Mike and Tanya Zaugg and their three sons dropped off the toys Wednesday. The family has a special relationship with the pediatric center because their 7-year-old son Aidan spent time there in 2008 for cancer treatments. He died in November of that year.
"Aidan would have turned 10 years old on Aug. 18," his mother said. "We continued to celebrate his birthday by filling the yard with red balloons on that day each year."
Birthday kindness
Birthday kindness
On the evening of Oct. 8, I was at the Columbia Center mall with friends and family. We were helping a little girl celebrate her fourth birthday. She wanted to spend some of her birthday money at a candy store, so we went to the Carmelcorn Shop. It was just before closing, but instead of trying to rush us or hurry us out the door in order to close on time, the people working there entered into the spirit of celebration.
I don't know anyone's name, but I believe they were a family group, possibly mom, dad, and teenager. They let Cadence take her time making choices, they gave her samples and to top it off, they turned on their cotton candy machine and made her a fresh batch on the house! Their kindness and warmth really blessed our shy little one and sent us all home with a smile.

Pasco murder suspect's husband accused of attempted murder
The husband of a Pasco murder suspect was arrested Tuesday in California for allegedly trying to help kill his mother-in-law last year.
Todd Stuart, 48, was arrested for first-degree attempted murder while on the deck of a decommissioned aircraft carrier in the San Francisco Bay, said Deputy Joe Palmer, public affairs officer with the U.S. Marshals Service in Northern California.
Palmer told the Herald that Pasco police detectives flew down to the Bay Area to look for Stuart and help in his capture. Oakland police also assisted marshals.
