SEATTLE Last week, Herald sports editor Jeff Morrow and I attended the media day for the Pacific-10 Conference men's golf championships, which is being staged this week at Seattle Golf Club.
The tournament host is the University of Washington, and head coach Matt Thurmond spent about 30 minutes with membership of the Northwest Golf Media Association offering details on many aspects of the event.
The Tri-Cities will be represented by Kennewick's Kevin Tucker, who is a junior at Washington State, while Richland's Alex Moore is a redshirt freshman at Oregon State.
Thurmond and the Huskies were basking in the glory of their victory at Stanford's U.S. Intercollegiate. Nick Taylor, medalist in the Palo Alto, Calif., event, is a semifinalist for the Ben Hogan Award, which is golf's version of the Heisman Trophy.
The 72-hole tournament runs Monday through Wednesday. In 2005, Washington State University staged the event at Walla Walla Country Club, and the Huskies staged a remarkable final-round rally to win the tournament.

WIAA considers Kennewick again for state volleyball tournament
Kennewick's Toyota Center could be a state volleyball tournament site again and the format of the tournaments could change, too.
“We’re totally up in the air with volleyball,” said Cindy Adsit, the WIAA assistant executive director who oversees volleyball.
Adsit said there were "issues at every site" this fall, including lengthy delays, not enough seats or restrooms, limited concessions for spectators and poor outside lighting. Some of those issues can be fixed by site managers or by moving locations. Others can only be remedied if the tournament format is changed.
