Last month, KFLD 870 shuttered The Locker Room.
Shortly after noon today, Chad Vaughn, aka "East Coast Bias," announced that Friday will be his final outing on KALE 960's local sports talk program The Bull Pen.
I wasn't in a position to take any direct quotes from his declaration that came at the beginning of his program, but he seemed to hint that he was not asked to leave. He mentioned something to the effect that he's "headed in a different direction."
Vaughn said station management gave him no indication as to what would become of the programming for the daily lunchtime program. It could mean that KONA's "The Huddle" will serve as the only local sports talk forum, but that program is not daily. Jeff Phillips' program runs 6-7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday with his Sports Talk Friday also airing 6-7 p.m.
Vaughn said he informed New Northwest Broadcasters last week of his decision to make Friday, April 24 his final day at the station.
When I talked with him in March regarding the departure of his rival program, Vaughn noted that he was merely a part-time employee at the station and gave me the impression that the compensation for his radio work was near minimum wage. That might begin to explain his pending career change.
