Obviously, this date was going nowhere. I thought I knew the reason.
After 43 years of marriage, it was too late to make a break for it.
The mid-week date night started off well enough a movie, popcorn and soda pop and seats close to the rear of the theater. Dinner was next on our agenda.
The restaurant was quiet. Genteel waiters took our order and left us to be alone. Music played softly in the background.
No words were said. Our eyes met.
What are you thinking, Bill murmured.
For a moment I was taken aback. Hed stolen my line.
Well, its not really what youd think, I blushed, my thoughts crystallizing in my mind. I was just thinking about...
What? he queried, his eyes searching mine.
Well, I was just wondering..." my words hung in the air.
Yes? Bill prompted.
I took a bite.
Um... I was just wondering and I know this isnt what you thought I was thinking when was the last time I cleaned the cats litter pan, my laughter spilling into the room. I think its overdue.
Bill looked at me in amazement.
Well, he chuckled, I was thinking that I need to get the oil changed on the car. Its overdue, too.
Id have doubled up laughing, but my belt was too tight.
Still, what a good feeling, I reflected, to know that this date was going nowhere except home with me.

"The videos are a huge help," Comrie said. "You see the breakdowns in your game. When coaches tell you things, you can't see what they are talking about, but when you can see, it reinforces what you need to do. We get (memory) sticks of our sessions so we can go back and learn. We talk about it all the time. We communicate really well, and Ty has really helped me adjust to the league. It's great for him to share what he knows."
