Golf notebook: Hanford's Kim earns another pod title

By Rene Ferran, Herald staff writer

It took Hanford sophomore Scott Kim more than a year to pick up his first career victory at last week's CBBN boys match at Canyon Lakes.

It didn't take long for Kim to pick up career win No. 2. Kim shot a 1-under 71 on his home course at Horn Rapids on Wednesday to win the fourth CBBN pod, leading the Falcons to their fourth victory of the league season.

Kim defeated teammate and Cal State Fullerton signee Josh Harvey by two shots, helping the Falcons to a 300 total, four shots better than Walla Walla and 19 ahead of third-place Southridge.

The victory also propelled Kim into the lead in the season-long points standings with 242.5, moving him ahead of Eastmont's Brady Parsons, last year's 3A golfer of the year.

Harvey sits in third place with 195.25 points. Other area golfers in the top 10 are Wa-Hi's Greg Prins (fifth), Ryan Goude (sixth) and Drew Reinland (eighth), Hanford's Alex Cantu (seventh) and Southridge's Nick Atkin (ninth).

The final boys pod match is May 11 at Wenatchee Country Club.

NOTES: Two of the eastside's top tournaments take place this week, with the Big East Invitational for girls being held Friday at Wandermere in Spokane and the Inland Empire Invite for boys Monday at Spokane Country Club. ... The CBBN girls hold their fourth pod match Tuesday at Three Lakes GC in Wenatchee. On the same day, Hermiston holds its Big River tournament in Umatilla.
