At least according to my kids.
-- The cage full of mice at Petco. My 2-year old daughter will stand there giggling and squealing at them as long as I let her. In the case of the other day, this was as long as it took me to figure out how to register my dog for obedience classes thank you Petco for the strategic mouse placement. Lets just not advertise anytime soon what those mice are used for.
-- That large green Gumby-like tube attached to an air compressor outside of Keene Fitness. It was a sad week with lots of questions when the weather turned a few weeks ago and he was missing for awhile. My son even suggested I phone there and find out if he ran away.
-- The Napa Auto Parts cars
you know the ones with the hats? Now THOSE are the funniest ever. At least according to my 4.5 year old.
-- Doggie droppings. Yep, when we are out for a walk and happen upon doggie messes not picked up it causes quite an uproar and may be a good amount of time before we can move on. Nope, I never found them that funny either. They must get this from their dad?
-- Putting things on the pets. OK, so this one they may get from me. My sister and I tormented all of our animals when we were kids by stuffing them in doll clothes and taping paper things to them. My daughter found a great amount of joy in putting sunglasses on our dog this past weekend. OK it WAS pretty funny!
-- Another animal related one
dogs who hang their heads out the window. Yes, I agree, some are pretty funny. We have dogs, but ours tend to cower in fear inside the car instead of relishing the breeze.
What do your kids find to be the funniest things ever?

Whenever a controversial photo appears in the newspaper, such as the dog on the American flag or kids swimming in the river without life jackets, everyone yells at the newspaper for publishing the photo as if it was their fault.
The newspaper didn't stage the photo, it isn't responsible for what is going on in the photo, the photographer is just making us aware of things and events that are happening in the world around us, whether it be right or wrong.
I'm sure the person who let his dog sit on the American flag learned a lesson and will never let his dog do that again, thanks to all of our veterans and other readers who wrote in to the paper about it.
Noisy dogs
Noisy dogs
I've lived in a neighborhood in Kennewick for about 15 years now. Not one day of any of those years has been very peaceful due to neighbors letting their dogs bark all hours of the day or night, at anything. By golly when they go out to have their morning smoke or cough up their last one, Rover is right there to bark the day to life. These fine neighbors emerge from their slumber anywhere between 5:30 and 8 a.m. No matter what time we have our alarms set for, too bad, it's time to get up. Rover says so, all day long while their "masters" are out doing their "thing."
There have always been one or two who don't get it. I've left nasty-grams on their doors, screamed at them and their dogs in my jammies, threatened to call the cops, all to no avail. I'm left wondering which is the stupider species.
Please, inconsiderate neighbors, give the rest of us a break. Stop letting your stupid dogs out to bark all day until you return from wherever. Put a shock collar on them if they can't keep quiet. I don't work "

Editorial board give personal reflections
-- Editor's note: The Herald's editorial board members have a Christmas tradition of taking a break from commenting on the issues of the day to offer personal reflections on the holiday season. This year, members were asked to reflect on a humorous Christmas memory.
Humor is in the eye of the beholder
I suppose it must be something inherited from the Norwegian side of the family. As Christmas approaches, we can lean toward excessive perfection, especially in our Christmas trees.

'The Guard' among year's best foreign films
'The Guard' among year's best foreign films
Some are comparing The Guard to the critically acclaimed In Bruges from 2008.
Martin McDonagh the brother of this writer/director did it and it also starred Brendan Gleeson. While both are good films and feature the lower side of life, the comparison really isn’t fair. The Guard is a good movie on its own and the comparisons really aren’t necessary.
