Soccer roundup: Southridge keeps rolling with 2-0 win

KENNEWICK -- Southridge's Jake Zoulek slotted a pass to Jarad Brisbin, who beat Hanford goalkeeper Christian Tenney for a 1-0 lead in the third minute as the Suns went on to top the Falcons 2-0 in a Columbia Basin Big Nine boys soccer matchup Saturday at Lampson Stadium.

Zoulek later scored the team's second goal, punching in a rebound off Adolfo Garcia's initial shot in the 47th minute.

"It's been a team effort and everybody on the field wants to keep it that way," Southridge coach Chip Elfering said after the Suns' ninth shutout this season. "We haven't been scored on since Richland four games into the season."

Brandon Hale made four saves for Southridge.

YAKIMA -- Salvador Navarro's goal for Davis stood up through the first 75 minutes before Andres Ruiz scored with five minutes remaining to secure the CBBN win over Kennewick.

"We brought the attack hard in the second half. We just didn't have opportunities to finish," said Lions coach Dwight Breighton. "We had a good chance inside their six, and they scored on a counter to clinch it. It was a good game."

SUNNYSIDE -- Brian Galvan scored twice in the first 21 minutes as Sunnyside posted three first-half goals without an answer in a CBBN win over Richland.

Michael Klein put the Bombers on the board in the 51st minute off an assist from Daniel Pak, but Jordan Esqueda gave the Grizzlies a three-goal cushion 11 minutes later.

OTHELLO -- Jorge Campos scored his eighth and ninth goals of the year as Othello remained undefeated in the CWAC with a win over Grandview.

"The main reason we're doing it is because of solid defense," said Huskies coach Bernie Garza, who credited stopper Estie Miron and sweeper Andres Mendoza with anchoring the back third.
