Scott Kim would have classified his season before Wednesday's All-CBBN boys pod match as so-so.
"I hadn't been playing really well, but I was scoring decent every time," the Hanford sophomore said.
But Wednesday, Kim recorded his first career victory at a high school tournament, shooting a career-best, 2-under 70 at Canyon Lakes to win the league match by three shots over Eastamont's Brady Parsons.
Kim's victory led Hanford to its third win in as many pod matches, edging Southridge by two shots.
"I got off to a pretty good start today," Kim said. "Then on the back nine, I started making some putts."
He reached both back-nine par-5s in two and made birdies to offset his only bogey of the day on the par-4 14th. He also birdied No. 2 on the front nine.
It's not as if Kim has struggled this year. In Hanford's previous two league wins, he posted a tie for fifth and tie for seventh.
"But today is the first time I felt like I played really well," he said. "I just like to go out to have fun, play golf, and not worry about my score too much."
Teammate Josh Harvey, a senior who recently signed with Cal State Fullerton, tied for fifth with a 76.
Southridge was led by Nick Atkin's 2-over 74, which placed him third.
The next boys match is April 22 at Horn Rapids. The girls have their third pod match today at Apple Tree in Yakima.
